Christmas in Sanibel and Captiva

December has had a few strong cold fronts that have brought lots of shells to the beach for the early morning beach combers. The water is clear now and cold for Sanibel..62 degrees!!.  The fish for cold water is Sheepshead, Black

November Summer

Fall gives us some cool starts and and an escape from the sticky summer. The temperatures are still reaching the mid 80's each day with plenty of blue sky days. Water clarity is an  amazing 8-10 ft visibility in many areas with water temperatures at nearly 78 degrees. The snook and redfish are still at  fall mid stop off islands. Sanibel fishing

The summer of poor water quality and bad hurricanes appears to be finally slipping to fall. I have fished the sweet spots in Pine Island sound for the last month with quite a bit of success. A nice school of oversize Redfish showed up for a couple of weeks. The school was like a rock star that showed up at the mall. Everyone was excited to catch a few real nice fish. The water is clearing up nicely but is still a little tannin stained. October is booking up and the holidays are just around the corner. On another note: The State has closed the Redfish and Snook until May to give them a chance to recover. We will keep Snapper a few Trout and I will be looking for my favorite..Pompano. Sanibel Fishing Charter September

September has been a quiet month this year. The Red tide is easing up due to the easterly winds. At this time last year we were starting recovery from Hurricane Irma. We are glad there are no Hurricanes in south Florida and are praying for the Carolinas as Florence heads towards them. On the water there is life returning to our area. Bait schools are in Pine Island Sound and around North Captiva Island. I'm still catching Mangrove Snapper and Sea Trout with a few Redfish. I have openings to go catch and have fun. Shelling Sanibel Captiva Island

Just a 20 minute ride to the north of Captiva island and clear water!. The beach is almost abandoned, 2 miles before we saw another boat. The shelling is always the best where you get the beach to yourself. The beaches north of Captiva have a few fish on them, but way less than Sanibel or Captiva. Sanibel Island Fishing

The Summer at Sanibel and Captiva is at its peak. Soon the fall will be here, and cooler weather will be back. The last week we have had good catches of Snook, Mangrove snapper and some sharks. I have installed a new EVA marine decking that's soft to walk on and non skid. The Island is quiet as school starts up for many, don't forget to take a day off fishing or shelling.

Sanibel and Captiva Sizzle

The Summer fishing is about working with nature. The hot steamy months of summer have the water temperature in the high 80's. Afternoon showers are a daily cooling for the waters near Sanibel Island. Fresh water from rain and big Lake O have turned the water brown and green. There is a Red Tide bloom that has stayed mostly north of us. Pockets of the red tide have killed fish and our bait. Fishing has been good for Sea Trout, Spanish Mackrel, and Mangrove Snapper. Start early and Finish early to beat the heat. Picture is me in the pool with my Grandson. His first trip in the pool.

May Fishing near Sanibel is right on track. Today is day three or passing showers from a tropical low. The rain is welcome, dry conditions for months have increased the fire risk for our area. The water has gotten clear from the lack of rain making for some fun days riding in the tower. Last week I rode thru Captiva pass and I could easily make out the limestone ledges. The water was 12-18 feet deep. I'm doing a little fishing off the beach on nice days catching snappers, Mackrel and a occasional triple tail. Next month I will be looking for Gag grouper. Spring break at Sanibel
